Chiropractor Has Tips for Auto Accidents in Clarksville TN

After an auto accident, the first question is whether you need urgent medical care. Questions for a chiropractor come after that. A low-speed crash doesn't prove you weren't hurt, and neither does feeling mostly fine at first.
When do you need emergency care after an auto accident?
Call 911 for a serious injury or emergency symptoms after a crash. After a head injury, get emergency care for a worsening headache, repeated vomiting, confusion, a seizure, trouble staying awake or new weakness. The CDC's adult concussion guidance explains those warning signs and why some symptoms show up later.
Neck pain after a collision needs urgent medical assessment if it comes with arm or leg weakness, trouble walking or an electric-shock feeling, as the NHS whiplash guidance sets out. Please don't wait for a routine appointment with us.
What to write down before your appointment
Once any emergency is handled, note:
- When the collision happened and how your body moved.
- Whether your head was struck or you lost consciousness.
- Where symptoms began and how they've changed.
- Which movements or daily activities are hard now.
- What assessment, imaging, medicines or discharge instructions you've already had.
Bring them to whoever examines you. Here, a first visit begins with one of our chiropractors going over your health history, symptoms and goals. Include new dizziness, memory trouble or headaches too, even if it seems like it's all your neck.
Should you rest after whiplash?
After a proper assessment, care for uncomplicated whiplash may include advice about activity and exercises. Long rest is generally discouraged in NHS advice on whiplash recovery, and the right pace depends on your symptoms and medical advice, including which activities suit you now and what would call for a re-check.
After our exam, we'll go over what we found before we recommend anything, and we'll tell you if what we find isn't something we treat. No treatment, ours included, can promise a crash injury won't cause symptoms later. Our whiplash guide covers care options and their limits, and our auto accident chiropractic care page goes further.
Cutting distractions before your next drive
Set navigation before you move, put the phone away, and pull over somewhere safe to answer a message. Texting, eating and adjusting controls can all take your attention off driving, NHTSA warns.
Seeing a chiropractor after the crash
If the ER or your own doctor has ruled out anything urgent and your neck or back still isn't right, give our front desk a call. Tell us what happened, and we'll talk through whether a first visit fits your situation.

Comprehensive physiotherapy exercise programme or advice for chronic whiplash (PROMISE): a pragmatic randomised controlled trial
172 people with grade I or II whiplash lasting more than three months.
What it foundAn intensive exercise program did not improve pain more than an advice session with telephone support at the measured follow-ups.
What it can't tell usIt compares two specific approaches to chronic whiplash. It isn't evidence that all exercise is useless, and it doesn't cover every acute injury.
