Equal Access and Non-Discrimination

The practice's policy is to treat people fairly and respectfully, without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, age, disability or sex. You can raise an access or discrimination concern with the practice without being penalized for doing so.

Communication and language needs

Tell the practice if you need help communicating, an accessible format, an interpreter or information in another language. Use the telephone or office details on the contact page, or ask in person. Explain your preferred way of communicating so the team can discuss arrangements with you. You do not need to include a diagnosis in an initial request.

Covered healthcare providers must arrange effective communication for people with communication disabilities. The appropriate aid depends on the person's needs and the nature of the conversation; examples include accessible written information and qualified interpreters. The Department of Justice explains these requirements. Requesting assistance does not waive your rights under applicable accessibility or civil-rights law.

You cannot be charged an extra fee for the auxiliary aids or services required to provide equal access under the ADA. The ADA's rules prohibit those surcharges.

For website barriers, see the accessibility statement. Contact the practice about assistance for an appointment as early as you can; a late request is still a request for assistance.

Raising a concern

Contact the practice using its telephone or office mailing address and ask to discuss an access or discrimination concern. Include what happened and how you would like to be contacted. Ask for help making your concern understood if you need an accessible communication method. Avoid sending sensitive health information in a public review.

You may also contact the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights. Its civil-rights complaint instructions explain what it investigates, how to file and the applicable deadline. You do not need to finish a complaint with the practice before seeking information from that office.
